Tableau Public is a powerful, free tool for creating interactive data visualizations. To get started, you need to import your data into Tableau. Here’s a quick guide to help you with the process.
Setup and Installation
Before you can import any data, make sure you have the following:
- Tableau Public: Download and install the latest version of Tableau Public from the official website: Tableau Public Product Download
- Dataset: For this example, we’ll use the Titanic dataset (titanic.xlsx), a classic dataset often used for learning data analysis. You can download it from various sources online.
Loading the Dataset into Tableau
- Open Tableau Public, and you’ll see a start page with various options.
- Locate the “Connect” section on the left side of the screen.
3. Choose the appropriate data source:
- If your dataset is in an Excel file (
.xlsx
), click on "Microsoft Excel". - If it’s a CSV file (
.csv
), click on "Text file".
4. Navigate to your dataset and select it.
