Tableau Public is a powerful, free tool for creating interactive data visualizations. To get started, you need to import your data into Tableau. Here’s a quick guide to help you with the process.

Setup and Installation

Before you can import any data, make sure you have the following:

  • Tableau Public: Download and install the latest version of Tableau Public from the official website: Tableau Public Product Download
  • Dataset: For this example, we’ll use the Titanic dataset (titanic.xlsx), a classic dataset often used for learning data analysis. You can download it from various sources online.

Loading the Dataset into Tableau

  1. Open Tableau Public, and you’ll see a start page with various options.
  2. Locate the “Connect” section on the left side of the screen.

3. Choose the appropriate data source:

  • If your dataset is in an Excel file (.xlsx), click on "Microsoft Excel".
  • If it’s a CSV file (.csv), click on "Text file".

4. Navigate to your dataset and select it.
