In today’s world, the IELTS certificate is seen as essential for students and non-native English speakers. After hearing so much about its importance, I finally took the plunge and sat for my first exam yesterday. In this article, I’ll share my experience with the computer-based IELTS test and some tips that could help you prepare better.
The IELTS Exam Process: A Journey of Nerves and Waiting
Taking the IELTS exam isn’t just about showing up and taking a test — it’s a well-organized process that demands time, effort, and money. The cost of the exam covers everything from logistics and administration to quality assurance, which is why it’s considered an investment. Having gone through it myself, I’d like to give you an inside look at the experience.
The IELTS test assesses four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The first three sections usually occur in the morning, and the Speaking test typically happens in the afternoon. Alternatively, you can choose an opposite pattern. I personally opted to take the three skills in the morning for better concentration. Needless to say, I was a bundle of nerves before the test. My anxiety was so intense that I couldn’t sleep the night before, which only added to my stress.
